Who are we and what do we do?
- We are a veterinary diagnostics lab in Aberystwyth, and we carry out postmortems for large animal vet practices in Wales.
- The postmortems we do, along with the other routine lab tests we perform, help us to diagnose and monitor diseases and problems on your farm.
- By investigating why animals have died you can then work with your local vet to make any changes needed, which should lead to healthier stock and a more efficient and profitable farm.
- The work at our lab feeds into the national surveillance network, which helps to monitor levels of disease in the population and gives us information about new or emerging diseases.
What does it cost?
We are a not for profit organisation and our fees are fair and sensible. For more information on the price of our different services please visit the relevant page.

About Us
The Wales Veterinary Science Centre was set up in 2015 by Iechyd Da (a consortium of welsh veterinary practices together with Welsh Lamb and Beef Producers Ltd), working in collaboration with Aberystwyth University. The WVSC was appointed by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) as a partner provider to deliver expert postmortem examinations (PMEs) of new and re-emerging diseases of farm animals, contributing to an enhanced UK-wide scanning surveillance network. The WVSC is a not-for-profit company which, in addition providing PMEs, also supports the veterinary and agricultural sectors with other diagnostic laboratory testing, advice and training.
Our commitment to our customers:
The WVSC prides itself on the fast and efficient service that it provides but our emphasis is always on quality. Whilst we usually get results out much earlier than the publicised test turnaround times, during busy periods we may not get them out as quickly as you have come to expect. Please be assured that we will always do our utmost to ensure the publicised test turnaround times are adhered to.
We will treat the information you give us when submitting samples with strict confidence. Click here to view our latest Privacy Notice.
